Sometime in ’97 I saw an interesting coupe in our town that I couldn’t recognize. After some investigation, I found out that the cream with black vinyl top car was an XJ6C. I researched the car and found out that there was a V12 version. That sounded really exotic….who wouldn’t want to own a V12 car. I had grown up around American muscle cars, but didn’t really feel like I fit in a black ’76 Trans Am any more. This V12 coupe seemed to have the DNA of any good muscle car……a large engine packed inside a shorten sedan body.
I have a very understanding wife and she was OK with me looking for a toy. This was before you would look at EBay, Craigslist or BringATrailer for your next project. Some of you may remember the Hemmings classic car classified ads. This was a book with hundreds of very thin pages that had classic car ads from around the country. At the time, there were three XJ12C’s for sale in the US. They were in Seattle, Omaha and New York. Two were white, one with a black and the other with red interior. I contacted both sellers and decided to move forward with the white exterior / black interior one in Omaha. Attached is the ad that ran for the car. I called a Jaguar dealer in Omaha and arranged for a PPI. The dealer did a compression test and general check out. The engine was in good shape but the front suspension and a brake line needed some work. The seller agreed to have these items fixed and we had a deal……I was excited!!!!!!!
