XJ12C For Sale

Here is a ’76 coupe for sale in Kansas for $14,995 that might be great, but there is an unknown amount of body work required.

Based on the pictures of the engine bay, it looks like this was originally silver (just like mine) and then painted grey when the top was removed.
The trim and badges look present and original. Except there are a couple of holes in the hood for a leaper, which wasn’t original on these.
Stock looking center console with a nice period looking head unit
Great looking Nardi steering wheel. The original comes with the car, but not sure who would want it over this one. Its noted that some of the gauges don’t work.
It looks like the seats have been re-covered in the dark blue.
Looks pretty complete. Its hard to tell in the picture, but it looks like the air injection has been removed. Not an issue at all as it simplifies things, but it would interesting to know how they did it and what else might have been modified (ie EGR and catalyst removal). The top belt is still on, so the smog pump might still be there or replaced by an idler pulley or a relocation of the alternator (which would be a neat upgrade)
Will definitely need some body work. Its interesting that the quarter panel is bubbling and not the rocker panel (sills on on a Jaguar šŸ˜‰ ). The rocker panels usually rust first, so maybe they were replaced during the paint work.

Other items noted by the seller are passenger seat not bolted down, new dash cover that needs the holes cut in for the defrost vents and its only running off one tank as it doesn’t switch over.

Questions I would have:

  • When was the last time it ran, and if recently would certainly like to see it running
  • With the rust that’s coming through, I wonder what the underside looks like. Some good pictures underneath would be good to see if there are also rotting floorboards

This might be a good starting point, but some additional investigation will need to be done.
