Fuel Pressure – solved

I guess that old saying “you get what you pay for” is accurate for fuel pressure regulators as well. After having trouble with the Holley regulator, I did some research and read reviews on different manufacturers and landed on Fuelab. They seem like a specialty manufacturer of fuel pumps and regulators that know what they are doing.

Their 53501-1 regulator was compact and had the adjustable pressure range I needed……and was 2.5 times the price of the Holley unit.

Must be a popular unit as it was back-ordered for a month. Then with the holidays and some other car projects keeping me busy, it took until today to finally get this installed.
More compact and simpler looking than the Holley unit. Feels more like a fine instrument when setting the pressure than the Holley unit or the stock Bosch regulators.
To try and help with my rough running and the theory that the Denver altitude is causing the engine to be too rich, I set the pressure to 28.5 psi which is the bottom of the recommended range.
Looks pretty clean in the engine bay.

The streets are dry today, so I took the car around the neighborhood and it seems to be running well. I won’t really be able to tell until the main roads are cleaned up and I take it out on them.

This unit holds the rail pressure very well with the car off and it takes a few minutes before you can see the pressure dropping off.

I’m excited for spring to break so I can get the car back on the road.
